A Day in San Fran: Personal

personal

Serious question: Am I the only one who tries to buy a new wardrobe every time I am getting on an airplane? It is a sickness.

I have a few hours [like, 15] before I’m taking a red-eye flight to Boston. So I thought today was a fitting day to share some photos from my last adventure. A few weekends ago I was able to head up to San Francisco [for the first time!] to photograph Lizzie & Joe’s wedding. This trip was particularly amazing, because my wonderful friend Jennie was able to join me as my 2nd shooter. When I first asked her, I was half joking and 100% hoping she would be able to come. She lives in Canada AND she’s a mom, the odds were kind of stacked against me. But I asked anyway.

I met Jennie in person in 2010, she came to Southern California with her friend Meredith to visit my Alexis. I don’t know if at the time she and Meredith realized that Alexis, Brenna and I are kind of a package deal so when you’re friends with one you get us all but as soon as they got on a plane home [after a few tears] the 3 of us started planning a trip to Canada to visit. It took almost 2 years but this past summer the 3 of us finally made it to Ontario. So the idea of seeing Jennie again, just 2 months after visiting her in Canada and in a city neither of us had ever been to? It was kind of crazy.

The best part of this story is that Alexis was able to fly up on Saturday night after the wedding to join us for a day and a half of fun. Jennie & Alexis are friends that live much too far apart, and that I got to play even the tiniest roll in letting them get together– in person– for the second time in one year. Basically makes me cry every time I think about it, and pretty much the entire time I’ve been putting this blog together I’ve been in a constant state of teary-eyed. This dream job of mine has taken me to places I never imagined, and I am so thankful.

Of course we started the day with Starbucks, coffee and bagels with a new friend, Sara. Who is a very talented Bay Area photographer. 😀

When we were in Canada, we vowed to take as many group pictures as possible. It was a billion degrees outside and soooo humid so we didn’t take nearly as many group photos as we wanted and the ones we do have… it looks like it’s a billion degrees outside. Not good. So the three of us decided we would take advantage of the amazingly cool San Francisco weather and take as many group photos as humanly possible.

I had 2 favorite parts of San Francisco, one of them, was riding a cable car. SO fun!

We had quite a few people tell us all the things we should do on our day of tourism, but almost everyone told us to go to Blue Bottle Coffee. So, we decided to go to Blue Bottle Coffee. It was seriously some of the best coffee I have ever had in my LIFE. I could have stayed there all day.

Just for the record, group pictures of our coffees totally counts as group pictures.

Funny story: we walked in to Blue Bottle Coffee and we were CLEARLY out of place there. Not hipster enough by ANY stretch of the imagination. And the barista actually said “This is to go right?” after we ordered, insinuating we were not welcome to stay. It was hilarious. Clearly we got it to stay.

My second favorite part of San Francisco was The Presidio. I loved everything about it. So much so that when we were driving through I made us pull over for a side of the road photoshoot. It was just SO beautiful.

Jennie is going to kill me for saying this, and for posting this picture, but it sums up our trip so well. She pretty much spent all day Sunday crying tearing up, because she couldn’t believe this was happening and because it was going to end. I love her so much.

Even I took a turn in front of the camera. ;]
When the trip got closer and we started talking about things we wanted to do while we were in San Francisco we all agreed we wanted to be at the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. We got so distracted by our side of the road photoshoot we almost thought we weren’t going to make it. But we did, and it was amazing.
Amazing.

I thought it would be cool to walk across the bridge, but it’s really long, and it was dark and windy and cold. And I’m not going to lie, as soon as we walked out far enough that the chain link barrier was gone I was done.

Hands down, this was one of my favorite weekends this year. Alexis & Jennie, I am so blessed by your friendships. ♥
