The Color Run: personal

It’s really hard for me to be in the moment.

This is not a new development. I’ve always been that way, sinking in to the background so I can observe what’s going on. I like to take it all in, and, 98% of the time the background is where I want to be. But every now and then, I want to participate, to crawl out from the corner I’ve been hiding in and actually be part of the fun not just watch or photograph it.

Yesterday, alongside 7 of my amazing friends, I completed my first 5k. The Color Run. My friend Lizzy came along to photograph it, and when she blogged a few of the photographs last night I didn’t expect to have such an emotional reaction. Lizzy photographed Jack and I a few months ago, and I was prepared to be emotional when I saw those images, but The Color Run? I was laughing the whole day and I look disgusting!

Then I realized yesterday was one of those 2% days where I could leave my camera at home and really be in the moment, sweating and laughing and filling my lungs with colored chalk. And, finishing something I’ve worked really hard to accomplish. I really needed that.

Here are a few of the images Lizzy captured yesterday. I am seriously so thankful for that girl, head over to her blog so you can see more. But, I’m not kidding, I look really disgusting! Hahah!
