January: goals

personal

I kind of have an obsessive compulsive personality. When I start something, no matter what it is, I obsess over it until it’s done. This is a good and a bad thing. ;] For the past 24 days I have been obsessing over the TV show LOST. This is my first time watching, so no spoilers please! In 24 days I have watched 73 episodes… that is 3 episodes a day, Internet. The line between impressive and embarrassing is so thin right now.

That story has absolutely nothing to do with my blog post today, but I’m still sad about the season 3 finale I watched yesterday… and Jack Shephard was in my dreams last night soooo I have LOST on the brain. ;]

My blog this morning is a handful of goals. This year I’m going to start every month with a post of a few goals I’d like to get done during that month, but in January I wanted to start with some broad, year-long goals. I came up with 10 things I really want to work on, or accomplish in the next year and I’m sharing them with you to keep me accountable. So next January when I follow up with these goals I can see how far I’ve come.

Happy Friday, everyone!! The first week of 2013 is almost over. ♥

1. Blog 3x a week.
This is pretty self explanatory, I don’t know that I will ever be one of those amazing blog 5x a week people but I cannot let weeks- plural!– go by without updating. Sub-goals to this is blog at least 1 wedding related blog per week and 1 personal blog.

2. Keep track of spending/receipts.
Also, pretty self explanatory. ;] This year a large portion of my receipts went into the abyss of my purse… and are still there. 😛

3. Work at my desk.
For the last several years I have always been content working from the living room couch. I can watch TV, snuggle with the puppy, be in the front of the house, you know all the good stuff. But this year I want to make it a priority to work at my desk. For several reasons but mainly because if I’m working at my desk it won’t become a ginormous junk collector, which it currently is now and because then the lines between work and home won’t be so blurred. Working from the couch means I’m always working. I want to make it ok to put my laptop down and enjoy life.

4. Build relationships with the wonderful vendors with whom I work.
It’s better to have friends than not, right? ;]

5. FINISH REBRANDING!
Working on a rebrand over the last year has been kind of a nightmare that is 100% my fault. [I suck at decision making!] This year I want to launch my new brand.

6. Be consistant about submitting to blogs.
Submitting to have my work featured on other blogs is incredibly intimidating. I don’t take rejection well. But, I really want to get better at submitting my work.

7. Work out 3x a week.
Self explanatory. At the very least I want to go to Pilates and Xtreme Strength classes every week, but the bonus would be if my knee would stop freaking out and I’d be able to start running again too.

8. Shoot a “destination” wedding and have Jennie 2nd shoot with me.
One of my very favorite weekends last year was when I went to San Francisco with Jennie and Alexis. I want to do that again. Not necessarily San Francisco, anywhere I have to travel far enough that it would be worth it to fly Jennie out [from CANADA!] to shoot with me again. ♥

9. Update my equipment.
In 2012 I purchased a 5D MarkIII, in 2013 I would like to add the 70-200mm, 100mm macro, and the 35mm lenses to round out my collection… Driving to Samys to rent all the time is such a pain.

10. Be intentional about planning styled shoots.
I have all of these ideas… and then I just stick them up on a shelf and never do anything with them. I need to actively shoot things that inspire me, and planning and organizing a styled shoot will give me that opportunity.

One of the things w/ rebranding that helps me is find one person (COULD BE ME 🙂 🙂 :)) that’s a friend and you trust to be your gague. Run your ideas/concepts by them and get their opinion. I think having the same person helps you stay consistent. Engage someone in your decision making. I’m sure they’ll be happy to help. 🙂
